Package Delivery Text Scams
A text says a package delivery could not be completed and asks you to tap a link to reschedule or pay a small fee.
How the scam works
The text claims to be from a shipping carrier and says your package could not be delivered.
It asks you to tap a link to reschedule delivery or pay a small redelivery fee.
The link leads to a fake page designed to collect your card number or personal information.
Common warning signs
- You were not expecting a package from the sender named in the text.
- The link goes to a web address that does not match the carrier's real website.
- You are asked to pay a small redelivery fee with a card.
- The message contains unusual spacing, spelling, or grammar.
What to do
- Do not tap the link.
- If you are expecting a package, check the delivery status directly on the carrier's official website or app.
- If you are not expecting a package, delete the message.
What not to do
- Do not tap links in unexpected delivery texts.
- Do not enter your card number to pay a small redelivery fee from a text link.
- Do not reply to the text, even to say “stop.”
Example message
Never call a phone number contained in a suspicious message. Instead, use the official phone number printed on your card, statement, or the organization's official website.
